Girl In a
Cloak....By S. Baber
I see a small framed girl...wrapped in a cloak of
disillusionment....pale, milky skin...sharp brown
eyes...sitting with her arms wrapped securely around her legs...head turned to
the left to look at you...the scene reminds me of a deer..dancing eyes not
knowing whether to run or stay....she hears soft whispers and she wonders which
of it is truth and which is a coercion of lies of many multitudes.... a
calming more serene voice speaks and settles her spirit, she obliges and in a
discrete manor slides the cloak away from her body to reveal what
appears to be transparent skin...on plotted
parts of her body there are revealed indescribable marks...from a distance
they appear to be small pigmentations....as you draw closer you are mesmerized
by the sight that leaves you confused and speechless...
What a wonder....what could cause such marks that seem to go
from skin to below the surface and run through the veins and tissue and be
compelled to run straight to her heart....and another oddity is that when you
are close to her and you can hear the sound of her heart...the laughter of her
children, the sobbing of fear of loss and possible failure...the rapidness of
heart beat when a pure love is around...and then as if it all were a harmonious
song all of those sounds are intertwined and you can feel the Song of Her
Heart leap from her to you....But a long with that
you feel a pressure build from your toes and move its way up to your heart and
you know instantly that is the wall she has formed around her heart to deter
any more heartache from breaking what she has left...
The calm and serenity she had has been shattered and she knows
you have seen and felt too much....the deer
like characteristics have returned and she whips her cloak tightly back around
herself.....she continues to look at you with a slightly darkening and then
lighting to her eyes as if hurt and then compassion battling against each
other, asking with her eyes..."How could you?" "Why would
you?" ...... Then she is asking herself "Can I?"
"Should I?"
...... What will come of her and her pains and desires and
secret strength that has carried her thus far...How will she come to the place
of calm and serenity once again to lose the cloak of disillusionment
once and for all...
